The Complete Guide to Cashmere Care: Washing, Drying, and Moth Prevention

Cashmere should last for years!
Invest in the best you can afford and a timeless and sustainable style forever.

Cashmere's durability is a combination of its natural properties, quality manufacturing processes, and proper care by the owner. Choosing high-quality cashmere and taking care of it will ensure that your cashmere garments can last for many years, providing you with comfort and style throughout their extended lifespan
Its so important to store your cashmere correctly - to protect it from moths, keep it clean, and maintain its shape.

Cashmere is a natural & delicate and luxurious fabric, so follow these Cashmere Care Tips to ensure it stays in excellent condition:

  1. Clean the cashmere: Before storing, make sure the cashmere is clean. Follow the care instructions on the label or handwash it with a gentle detergent specifically designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach.
WEARWITH Cashmere is machine washable – we want you to wear it and wear it, see our washing instructions here
  2. Dry thoroughly: After hand washing, gently press out excess water without wringing or twisting the cashmere. Lay it flat on a clean towel and reshape it to its original size. after Machine Wash - let yoru cashmere air dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources on a flat surface with air circulation.
  3. Fold, don't hang: Hanging cashmere for an extended period can cause it to stretch and lose its shape. Instead, fold the cashmere garments neatly to prevent wrinkles and maintain their form. Place acid-free tissue paper between the folds to help prevent creases.
  4. Use breathable storage containers: Opt for breathable fabric storage containers or cotton bags for storing cashmere. Avoid plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and lead to mildew or mould growth. Bags do not guarantee the moths won’t get your Cashmere but they do add an additional protective layer.
  5. Add moth repellents: Cashmere is attractive to moths, so use natural moth

repellents like cederwood mothballs, lavender sachets or dried orange peels and Chestnuts. WEARWITH Cashmere Care packages come with cedarwood moth balls and a cashmere comb. Mothballs need to be re oiled/scented. Any strong smelling odour will repel moths, we use cedarwood oil but lavender oil works too and also makes your drawers smell heavenly.
  6. Store in a cool, dry place: Find a cool, dry storage location for your cashmere. Moisture and direct sunlight can damage the fibres, leading to colour fading or mildew growth. The ideal storage place could be a wardrobe or a drawer.
  7. Regularly check and refold: Periodically check on your cashmere to ensure there are no signs of moths or damage. Refold your cashmere to avoid creases in the same areas for an extended period.
  8. Avoid contact with rough fabrics: When storing cashmere with other items, make sure they are not made of rough materials that can snag or damage the delicate fibres.
  9. Keep it clean in storage: Avoid storing cashmere with food, perfumes, or other items with strong odours that can transfer to the fabric.
  10. Going on holidays?: Leave your cashmere drawers or cupboard doors open. Moths don’t like light, and you may be worried they will get dusty, but that a lot easier to sort out than Moth holes!

By following these storage tips, you can help maintain the softness, shape, and quality of your cashmere garments for a long time.

Cashmere is forever

Proper care will also extend the lifespan of your cherished cashmere pieces.

Your Questions about Cashmere Hats Beanies

Cashmere hats are made from the fine undercoat fibers of cashmere goats, which are significantly softer, warmer, and lighter than regular wool. Unlike standard wool hats, cashmere beanies and hats regulate temperature naturally — keeping you warm without overheating — and feel luxuriously smooth against the skin.

Yes — a high-quality cashmere hat can last for years when cared for properly - Cashmere Care. Cashmere is a premium natural fiber known for its durability, insulation, and timeless style. It’s softer and warmer than most other wools, making it an ideal choice for anyone who values comfort and long-term wear.

Cashmere naturally repels small amounts of moisture and remains warm even if slightly damp, but it’s best not to wear it in heavy rain. If your cashmere beanie does get wet, let it air-dry flat at room temperature — never on a radiator or in direct heat. If it has lost its shape, just wash it in the machine as per our instructions and it will come back like new

Yes — at WearWith, we’re committed to sourcing responsibly. Our cashmere is ethically obtained from trusted suppliers who prioritise animal welfare and sustainable grazing practices. We believe luxury should never come at the planet’s expense. All our Cashmere is certified by the Sustainable Fibre Alliance and I have personally visited the factory to ensure working conditions etc... are safe and fair, and they are.

Cashmere naturally relaxes a little with wear but returns to shape after washing and drying properly. Avoid hot water or tumble-drying, as heat can cause shrinkage. With proper care, your hat will keep its beautiful fit and feel season after season. A Wash will always bring it back into shape.

Cashmere hats are effortlessly versatile — pair them with a classic wool coat for an elevated winter look, or wear them with jeans and a sweater for relaxed weekend style. Choose neutral tones like chocolate, oatmeal, or grey for a timeless wardrobe staple.

Most of our cashmere beanies are designed with a flexible ribbed knit that fits comfortably on most head sizes. For specific measurements, check the product details on each item page.

The terms are often used interchangeably, but generally:

  • Cashmere hats can refer to a variety of styles, from fitted to slouchy.
  • Cashmere beanies typically describe the soft, round, slightly relaxed knit style.

Both are made with the same luxurious cashmere yarn for ultimate warmth and comfort.

Absolutely — a cashmere hat or beanie makes a thoughtful, elegant gift. It’s suitable for any age or gender and perfect for birthdays, holidays, or winter thank-you presents. Each WearWith cashmere hat can be beautifully wrapped for gifting upon request.
